We have launched consultation on the emerging Borough Character and Design Code SPD (Supplementary Planning Document) and will be consulting until 13th May 2022. The aim of this emerging SPD is to update our existing character and context study and include design codes for the borough. It will play a crucial role in shaping future development to ensure that it responds positively to our borough’s character and is of high-quality design– ensuring that local people can live, work and thrive in sustainable, healthy, social, and well-designed places.

We are running two consultation workshops, which are an opportunity to give feedback on the document and get answers to any queries that you may have. Details on how to sign up to the workshops can be found at the event webpage . If you have already signed up to a workshop an invite will be issued to you shortly.

This updated study will play a crucial role in shaping future development to ensure that it is of high quality design and responds positively to our borough’s character. Following the Character Area workshop that was held in March, we are holding a further engagement workshop on options for Design Codes.
You are warmly invited to join us at our stakeholder workshop on: 12th May 2021 from 6pm to 7:30pm.
The purpose of the workshop is for you to feedback on proposed area design codes and give your thoughts on any additional design codes that could be included in an SPD.

The format of the workshop will begin with a short presentation explaining what design codes are and their purpose. We will then break out and spend more time in area based discussion groups to look at the proposed design codes for each of the areas. There will then be an extended period of discussion time to give feedback on the proposed options, propose alternative codes and come up with new codes that shape the future of your neighbourhoods. The draft design code document will be issued in advance of the workshop.
The area based discussion groups will be split into the following:
Bedfont, Feltham, Hanworth
Central Hounslow
Hounslow West, Heston and Cranford
Isleworth and Osterley
Chiswick
Brentford
Places will be limited, as each group is capped at 15 people to ensure that discussion can take place and everyone can give their feedback.

We are preparing an update to our 2014 Urban Context and Character Study, which includes proposing Design Codes for the borough. It is proposed that the Character Study will be adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document and will be formally consulted on in Spring 2021.
Responses to our “Tell us about your Neighbourhood” Commonplace survey in January- February 2021 helped us to better define character area boundaries and told us about the characteristics of neighbourhoods.
We are now holding a workshop to discuss amendments on the character areas based on feedback and to help us define opportunities to improve these character areas.
We would like you to join us at our stakeholder workshop on:
Wednesday 3rd March, 6-7:30pm
The workshop will be run by Hounslow Spatial Planning Officers and our Consultants, Allies and Morrison (who are town planners and urban designers).
There will be a short presentation, followed by further discussion in area specific breakout groups. During the event, you will be able to select which area specific breakout group you would like to give your thoughts at.

If you would like to give feedback for more than one area, you could send a representative to another area breakout group. Alternatively, we will record the event and upload it to the website, which you can re-watch and send any feedback in writing to Officers after the event.
